Low E Glass VS Window Film

Many building owners ask this question : should i install Low E or Window Film?

Which is more effective in blocking heat and most importantly is cost effective?

Low Emissivity glass is a coated glass that can help to reduce heat, UV rays while still allowing natural light to come in. It is a coating that is applied directly on the glass, or sometimes in between double glazed glass. The durability of such coating are usually longer, while the effects are also substantial where it can block 50% and above of heat and about 40-50% of UV rays.

Window film on the other hand is a piece of clear plastic laminate that has a similar low e coating on it too. It also reduces heat, block UV rays and also allow natural light to come in. Depending on how dark the tint is, it can reduce up to 85% of the heat, and also block 99% UV rays. Warranty for it can also go up to 15 years, to cover bubbling, peeling and discolouration.

Advantages of window film vs low e glass

  1. Low E glass can be expensive at times as compared to window films
  2. Window films are easily installed as compared to changing the whole facade system
  3. It can block UV 99%
  4. You can change and refresh your films easily even after 10 or 15 years.
